Proceedings in the House kicked off with the Hon Phil Goff launching into the Prime Minister over the number of jobs created by the national cycleway project after information was released that since its beginnings in the job summit last year, it had created 70 jobs. The leader of the opposition asks the Prime Minister: Does he stand by his statement that his proposed cycleway would cost $50 million and “will create just under 4000 jobs when it’s being built”; if so, how many jobs have been created so far?

The Local Government (Auckland Reform) Bill is at the top of the Government's business for tomorrow, along with finishing up debates this week on the Appropriation (2010/11 Estimates) Bill (Budget 2010) with 7 hours and 11 minutes of allocated time remaining.

The Tariff (New Zealand-Hong Kong, China closer Economic Partnership Agreement) Amendment Bill will have its first reading in the House tomorrow. This gives preferential tariff rates as a result of the FTA with China.

Kiwibank was again the hot topic in the House with Dr. Russel Norman criticising any potential Government plans to partially privatise the bank, he asked the Minister of Finance during Question Time: What reports has he received on the total amount of dividend payments sent offshore to the Australian owners of ASB, ANZ National, Westpac, and the BNZ over the last five years; and what is this amount?

Question Time in the House continued along the same vein of debate as yesterday with Dr. Russel Norman now questioning the Government on their financial policy in regards to SOEs, he asked the Prime Minister (Hon Simon Power spoke on his behalf): Did he seek advice on any potential damage to Kiwibank’s brand and customer goodwill resulting from its possible privatisation, before he told a meeting of business people on Friday that he might consider a partial privatisation of Kiwibank?
